Award Categories & Criteria

One winner per award, excluding Outstanding Student and Teamwork awards. Winners will receive a cash payment (check) and a certificate of recognition. Award values are indicated next to the award category.

DFA All-Star Award ($500)

The DFA All-Star is an exemplary employee whose actions or achievements transcend the other award categories. The nominee demonstrates commitment to the Division’s Strategic Plan Goals and Core Strategies:

  • Service – To provide the highest levels of service in order to promote the success of OSU’s students, our colleagues in the OSU community, and the public using the best available tools, technologies, and practices.
  • Safety and Health – To provide a safe environment that protects and encourages improvements in the health and wellness of all aspects of the OSU community.
  • Stewardship – To ensure that all human, financial, physical, environmental, and animal resources entrusted to the university are deployed in an effective, efficient, transparent, and socially responsible manner.

Additional award critera: Qualifying nominees will demonstrate two of the three strategic goals. These qualifications must be clearly identified in the nomination letter. For more information about the goals and strategies, please visit the Division's Strategic Plan webpage.

Community Builder Award ($100)

Regularly provides outstanding volunteer service to the Division, Oregon State University, or their local community through personal involvement in one or more organizations, committees or groups, including but not limited to:

  • Service to OSU or its student organizations, including Commencement, student move in/out days, DFA event committees, safety committees, Faculty Senate, and others.
  • Local government service such as County Board of Commissioners, City Council, school boards, watershed districts, etc.
  • Local non-profit social service groups such as Habitat for Humanity, Boys and Girls Club, United Way, 4-H, SOLV, etc.
Customer Service Award ($100)

Consistently provides outstanding customer service, going beyond job expectations to help students, faculty, staff and community members. Adds value to interactions with customers, and in return receives appreciative feedback. Characteristics of excellent customer service actions include:

  • Timely responsiveness; friendly, welcoming interactions; resourceful and helpful attitude; delivers more than expected.
Innovation Award ($100)

Demonstrates an outstanding ability to explore creative, flexible and innovative solutions to work issues and problems. Consistently develops and implements creative problem-solving approaches. Recipient regularly exhibits characteristics such as:

  • Create a culture of continuous process improvement and a framework for assessing processes.
  • Integrate information systems and platforms to modernize how we conduct business.
  • Attention to outcomes and efficient use of resources.
  • Ensures engagement with process experts, stakeholders, and customers who are impacted by the project.
Leadership Award ($100)

Shows commitment to the DFA mission and objectives, displays a high degree of integrity in supporting the organization, and offers extraordinary support in the guidance and education of colleagues.

  • Commits to supporting and/or mentoring colleagues.
  • Consistently exhibits a high standard of personal ethics and integrity.
  • Supports their unit or work group by engaging in collaborative problem-solving activities.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and focuses on satisfactory outcomes.
  • Promotes and enhances diversity, and actively welcomes various perspectives.
Outstanding Student Award ($100)

Demonstrates dependability and a commitment to excellence in achieving unit goals.

  • Works both collaboratively and independently, as appropriate, and seeks ways to improve work processes.
  • Maintains a positive attitude and works well with others.
  • Focuses on detail; performs work accurately, with little or no errors.
  • Is reliable, punctual and self-motivated.

Note: This category permits up to two awardees who meet or exceed the criteria.

Teamwork Award
($50 per winner/maximum $250 per team)

Outstanding ability for team to work collaboratively and/or between units. Demonstrates qualities of effective group behavior, including:

  • Commitment—Shows commitment to the project; enthusiastically shares information about the project; ensures engagement with process experts, stakeholders, and customers who are impacted by the project.
  • Relationships—Promotion of respectful relationships among team members; clear communication of ideas for understanding by all participants and stakeholders; values diverse perspectives.
  • Engagement—Members actively engage in a collaborative problem solving; openly encourage and support team members’ input and ideas; collective group motivation and inspiration; work persistently to overcome obstacles.
  • Project Support—Members regularly attend work sessions and presentations; timely responses to deadlines and sponsor/stakeholder requests for information; considers the impact of process changes on the entire OSU community; focuses on easy, uniform process design and implementation as well as project goals and metrics.

Award clarification: A team will be comprised of a minimum of two individuals as this is not an individual award. Maximum cash award of $50 per recipient with a maximum total award for the team of $250.
