Overview

Each year, OSU Campus Recycling and Surplus Property, in collaboration with University Housing and Dining, coordinate an effort to reduce waste during residence hall move-out by educating residents and giving them the tools to recycle and donate as much as possible.

Live in a Res. Hall? Here's How to Donate.

Visit our resident webpage for all the how-to's and look out for donation carts placed in your hall by the end of week 9. The donations help our local nonprofits and those in our community who are in need, plus it benefits the environment by promoting the reuse of materials!

Volunteer Support Needed!

It takes the hard work of both OSU staff and volunteers to collect, sort, and redistribute literally tons of goods in just a couple weeks! Lend a hand for these efforts by volunteering in the June 14-21 timeframe. Email Kaylee.Smith@oregonstate.edu if you and/or your organization is interested in volunteering.

2022 Benefitting Organizations

Below are the organizations who received donated goods in 2021. Organizations for 2022 will be updated by late May.

  • Helping Hand of Albany
  • Love Inc. of Albany
  • Teen Challenge
  • Linn Benton Food Share
  • Housing Our Veternas
  • Benton Furniture Share
  • Vina Moses Center
  • OSU Surplus Property (a small portion is resold through the OSUsed Store to recoup program costs)

How We Do It

Labeled donation carts are located on the ground floor, which accept non-perishable food, toiletries, clothing, bedding, and small housewares. Extra recycle carts are added in the final weeks while cardboard and trash continue to be collected outdoors.

Residents are made aware of the upcoming donation drive starting about one month in advance. Info is provided via an informational door hanger posted on every room door, abundant signage inside the halls, large posters at each UHDS service center, notices in the Campus Living e-newsletter, presentations to the East, South, and West Side Area Councils, posts on social media, and a web page made just for residents.
