Michael J. Green

Vice President for Finance and Administration

Chief Financial Officer

Michael J. Green has served as Oregon State University’s vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer since 2017. In partnership with Executive Vice President and Provost Ed Feser, Vice President Green ensures that OSU’s financial resources and administrative and physical infrastructure are closely aligned with its mission as a leading land grant research university with a focus on inclusive excellence and the deep integration of research, teaching, and engagement. He provides leadership, oversight and stewardship of the university’s $1.6 billion annual budget and most of its administrative operations and services.

Vice President Green is committed to supporting the implementation of OSU’s strategic plan, advancing President Murthy’s agenda, and advocating for OSU’s interests among colleagues across the State of Oregon and the nation. He honed the Division of Finance and Administration’s current strategic priorities to focus on advancing a safe and inclusive environment, modernizing administrative processes, modernizing infrastructure across the university’s locations, and becoming an employer of choice in Oregon.

During his tenure, Vice President Green has led the development of the university’s ten-year business forecast to better support leadership decisions; launched the division’s Framework for Success initiative for more informed and transparent decision-making in operational units; commissioned DFA employees to create the division’s first diversity, equity and inclusion action plan; and stood up the university’s first enterprise project portfolio management office to advance OSU’s most complex, multi-year and strategically important initiatives through to success.

Vice President Green serves on the University Cabinet and is an ex officio member of the OSU Board of Trustees Finance and Administration Committee. He is a member of the President and Provost’s Leadership Council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and actively participates as part of the Oregon public universities’ council of vice presidents. Prior to joining OSU in 2014, he was with the Oregon University System for 23 years.

Originally from Albany, Oregon, Vice President Green holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Oregon State University. He is an Oregon Certified Public Accountant and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants. He also serves on the Oregon State Credit Union board of directors. Vice President Green has been married to Melanie Green for 38 years; together they have 5 children and 9 grandchildren.
