Introduction

The Check-In Plan is the last step in the Annual Plan Development Process.  It details the plan for ongoing collaboration between the supervisor and employee to accomplish the goals and provide the supports identified in the Annual Plan.

The Check-In Plan, Performance and Development goals and Support Plan comprise the Annual Plan.

The supervisor and employee collaborate to develop the Check-In Plan, and to implement it throughout the entire Annual Plan cycle. The Check-In Plan employs regular meetings in which the supervisor and employee to engage in two-way, open dialogue and collaborate to accomplish the Annual Plan.

Instructions

To create the Check-In Plan, work together to plan for the following. Document the Check-In Plan and include it in the Annual Plan, along with the goals and Support Plan.

  1. Clarify the regular agenda for the Check-In meeting. In general, it should include:
    1. review progress on Performance and Development Goals;
    2. review progress on the Support Plan;
    3. dialogue, engage in two-way feedback, brainstorm and troubleshoot;
    4. add documentation to the Annual Plan file; and
    5. make necessary adjustments to the goals and Support Plan.
  2. Determine roles and responsibilities for Check-Ins. Recommended:
    1. Both
      1. prepare by reviewing relevant materials, identifying topics for dialogue, etc.
      2. bring and save relevant documentation;
      3. identify who will set the agenda and lead the meeting;
      4. identify who will document the meeting; and
      5. identify who will save documentation into the Annual Plan file.
    2. Supervisor
      1. ensure appropriate supports are provided;
      2. ensure appropriate development opportunities are provided; and
      3. ask for feedback on effectiveness of supports and development.
    3. Employee
      1. ensure progress on Performance and Development Goals;
      2. ensure supports were utilized; and
      3. ask for feedback on progress on Performance and Development Goals.
  3. Identify the frequency and duration of Check-In meetings.
    1. Meetings should occur at least quarterly during regular operations and more frequently when working through change or dealing with issues.
