Student Employment Policy & Procedure Guide
Section 500: Employment Eligibility Requirements
Effective: 07/01/2023

Graduate students who have accepted a graduate assistantship may be eligible for an additional hourly student employment position if they meet all other student employment requirements.

The maximum hours a graduate student with a graduate assistantship may work across all their active jobs at OSU is 24 hours per week (20 hours per week for International students), this would include a combination of their graduate assistantship and hourly student employment position(s). For example, a Graduate Assistant who is not on a J-1 or F-1 Visa and has a .40 FTE appointment (16hrs/week), may work up to additional 8 hours per week on a separate student hourly position(s).

Hourly rates for student positions are not based on graduate assistantship rates. Rates are determined by type of job category/work assigned, minimum requirements of the job, and not by the type of student (undergraduate vs graduate).

Questions regarding hiring a graduate student into an hourly position should be directed to the Undergraduate (Hourly) Student Employment team at student.employment@oregonstate.edu. Questions regarding a graduate assistantship or a graduate hourly position should be directed to the Graduate Student Employment team at  hr.gradassistants@oregonstate.edu
