Back to VPFA Update- Summer
On June 17, the team leading the HMSC High Ground Housing Project gathered for a ground-breaking event held in Newport. Attendees included staff from OSU Capital Planning and Development, contractors O’Brien-Lucas Ventures, design firm Mackenzie Inc., state legislators and city and county officials. The project is budgeted at $16.5 million and will provide housing for students, staff and visiting scientists at the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport.
The High Ground Housing project is a 34,000 square foot building that will include 72 studio units and five two-bedroom units for both long and short-term residents. The project helps to address a critical housing shortage in Lincoln County and will support OSU’s successful student and faculty recruitment efforts. Capital Project Manager Amy Keene, Construction Manager Liz Roach and Director of Capital Project Delivery Monika Watkins attended the event alongside Bob Cowen, HMSC director and associate vice president and other HMSC staff. Newport Mayor Jan Kaplan, State Senator Dick Anderson and State Representative David Gomberg were also in attendance.
